What is a fun, engaging, authentic way to teach students about real world issues while serving others? Through the academic competition program known as Texas Future Problem Solving! The purpose of the Future Problem Solving Program is to challenge students to collaborate and utilize their reading, writing, research, and communication skills in order to analyze and project creative ideas for resolutions to real world challenges. The Community Problem Solving component of the program takes all these skills to an even higher level as the students utilize these problem solving strategies to solve a real world challenge in an identified community. Participants will experience the presentation through brainstorming and collaboration, in small group and individual participation. In addition, actual student samples of successful Community Problem Solving projects through video clips, students’ scrapbooks and examples of competition materials.
